We all have a few friends who think they know soccer better than anyone else. They will often say that they called this or that game, when in actual fact, they didn't even know that the two teams were playing that day or even this weekend. That is betting on soccer is so popular, because in all of us, lives a soccer analyst who has a neck for calling games accurately. Just don't ask me for my accuracy stats.

Did You Know?

Betfred's founder Fred Done, had a 200 pound bet on England to win the World Cup in 1966 at odds of 8/1. In Fred's words "Sometimes you have to take a risk, it was a great result for England and a great result for Betfred"

On Betfred Insights, we want to equip you with the tools necessary to understand the different markets available to you when placing a bet on your favourite soccer team online. Through Betfred's website, you can place a bet on a whole host of different soccer  leagues and competitions from around the world. This includes but is not limited to the Premier Soccer League, MTN8, Carling Knockout, Nedbank Cup, CAF Champions League, Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1, but you will also find markets for leagues in countries such as Argentina, Egypt, China and Ethiopia.

Once you have selected the event you want to place your bet on. You will need to find market that best suites the bet you would like to place. We offer on close to 1500 markets on some soccer events under pages for each of the matches we provide odds for, ranging from the 3 way, total goals, both teams to score, goalscorers and double chance, which are explained below.

3 Way

The 3 way market is the first market available under every soccer event on our website. It offers you three options, Home, Draw or Away. Betting codes for this markets are represented as 1, 0, & 2. With 1 representing Home, 0 representing the Draw and 2 representing the Away. Draw is sometimes presented as an "x" instead of a 0.

It is important to note that for cup competitions or international tournaments that are at the knockout stage, this market applies to 90 minutes, should the match require extra time and eventually penalties. This mean that your bet will not be covered if your team was to win the match in extra time.

Total Goals

Very popular amongst players who want to predict a high or low scoring game without backing an actual winner. There is a variety of options from 0.5 - 5.5 Total Goals and for each of these variations, there two different options you have for this market. Over is used when you think there will be more goals than the variation you have selected. For example, If you feel that there will be Over 2.5 goals in the match. There will need to be 3 goals scored in the match for your bet to payout. If you go the other way and bet on goals Under 2.5 goals in the match, you will need the game to result in there being less than 3 goals scored in the game for the bet to payout as a winner.

Both Teams to Score

Popularly known as BTTS or BTS, both acronyms for Both Teams to Score. This market presents you with the option to back both teams to find the back of the net or alternatively back the option that both teams will not find the back of the net. This market has two options of  Yes or No. If you net on yes, than both teams will have to score in the match, if you bet on no, you need none the teams to score or at least one team not to score.

Goalscorers

This market is popular amongst people who have the ability to spot a goal scorer days, hours before the match kicks off. On most soccer events on our website you will find three different tabs.

The first tab is Goalscorers, on there you will find a list of players from both the home and away teams. you will be presented with three prices (odds) next to their names. These prices are for the first goalscorer, anytime goalscorer and last goalscorer. for example, if you want to back Player X to score in a soccer event. You can Back Player X to score the first goal of the game by selecting him under the First Goalscorer market. Alternatively, if you feel Player X will score the lat winner you will select Player X under the Last Goalscorer market. If you have a feeling that Player X will score, but you not sure if it will be the first or last goal of the game, you can back Player X to score at anytime by selecting him under the Anytime Goalscorer market.

Double Chance

If you can't make up you mind on what result to back, Maybe you don't trust your team to win outright. The Double Chance is a useful market for players who need some insurance or don't have total faith in an outcome. This market allows you to bet on two results such as Home or Draw, Home or Away and Draw or Away.

The odds are understandably lesser because your chances of winning are higher when two outcomes are covered. There are other markets involving double chance that are used to enhance the odds and they vary from both teams to score and over/under goal thresholds.

Correct Score

For those of us who can accurately predict the future. There is the correct score market, that allows you to pick out the final result between two teams. Ranging from 0-0 to 9-9 and sometimes higher than that. If you know exactly how a certain game is going to result, do not hesitate to back the correct score.

Tournament/Competition Outrights

The Outright markets are for people who see the future long in advance and may feel that the tournament or competition has been won before it has kicked off. The outright markets allow you to back an overall winner, and depending on the competition. You can Back which teams will get relegated, promoted, top the group, bottom of the group and so forth.
