Brentford vs Newcastle Prediction: Can Howe’s men qualify for Europe?
Newcastle United suffered a damaging blow in their bid to qualify for the Europa League in midweek as they were beaten 4-3 by Manchester United at Old Trafford. Now they head into the final gameweek three points behind sixth-placed Chelsea, who have now won their last four games in a row.
It means Newcastle have to beat Brentford to stand a chance of making it into the Europa League, while if results go against them they could miss out on European football altogether. Below you can find my Brentford vs Newcastle prediction, featuring team news and match odds.
Team News
Brentford still have a whole host of missing players, such as Josh Dasilva, Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey. Ivan Toney is expected to start in what could be his final match for the Bees, while Neal Maupay could return after the birth of his second child last weekend.
Alexander Isak recovered from an illness to play at Old Trafford, but fellow striker Callum Wilson missed out. Kieran Trippier also came back into the team, while Tino Livramento was absent to the surprise of many Newcastle fans. Joelinton is likely to come into the XI for the final game of the season.
Brentford vs Newcastle Match Odds
Brentford are priced at 2/1 to win this game, while Newcastle are available at 16/13. A draw can be backed at 27/10, over 2.5 goals is 21/50 and BTTS is 19/50.
Newcastle to win @ 16/13
I was disappointed by Newcastle’s performance in midweek, but I still think they can beat Brentford on the final day. The simply have to go out and win against the Bees, and they have the attacking quality to go and do so. With Trippier and Harvey Barnes back in the squad they have a massive amount of quality, and while Brentford have won three of their last five games, I think they will find it tough.
The home side have failed to score in games against Fulham, Brighton and Everton in recent weeks and Newcastle tend to struggle against attack-minded teams. This game should suit them and I’m backing the talents of Anthony Gordon and Isak to get them over the line.
Alexander Isak to score first @ 21/5
The Swedish striker has proven himself to be one of the finest strikers in the Premier League this season. Only Cole Palmer and Erling Haaland have scored more goals than him this term, and he is averaging 0.82 goals per 90 minutes, having scored 20 goals in 29 matches.
I think we can back Isak to find the net first here, in a game where I’m not expecting too many goals. Brentford have struggled to find the net lately, while Newcastle have scored 12 goals in their last four games. Isak can score first and set the Magpies on their way.
