CAF Champions League Fixtures: Qualification Round 2

The CAF Champions League has reached its second round of fixtures. Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates will be representing South Africa and their respective fans in this years edition of this competition. Both teams are in action and this is what soccer fans can expect.

Saturday - 14/09/2024 Galaxy FC vs Orlando Pirates

As if, it were written in the stars. Orlando Pirates face Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana once again in the CAF Champions League. Pirates fans are still holding on to memories of 2023, when their beloved club was knocked out of this competition by Jwaneng Galaxy. This was after Orlando Pirates failed to make their home advantage count in the second leg of that tie. penalties losing on penalties 5-4.

Jwaneng were class last season in their domestic league. Registering 2 losses, 4 draws and 22 wins all season long. They were very prolific infront of Goal, scoring 66 goals, the second highest in the league. They struggled in the CAF Champions League group stages, crashing out of Group B dead last after four successive losses in the group. They scored a single goal in the group stages on conceded twelve goals. In their defence Wydad Casablanca also crashed out of the same group. Finishing third behind Mimosas and Simba.

Orlando Pirates, were able to qualify for this competition after finishing second in the Premier Soccer League. They unlike Jawaneng, they had to play qualifiers in this season CAF Champions League. After a goalless draw against Disciples FC in the first leg, they managed to secure a 4-0 victory at home. Securing in the process progression to this round of the competition.

Orlando Pirates are on a run of five matches without a loss. They have also been the first team on the score sheet in four out of their last five matches. They have been a first half winner in four out of their last five matches as well. They are in good form coming into this encounter, especially when you consider the fact that they have had a lot more playing time since the new season kicked off. Jwaneng Galaxy will be playing their third game of the season, when they come up against Orlando Pirates. I'd back Orlando Pirates to progress but, it is the CAF Champions League and anything is possible.
