The MTN 8 is a competition that gives us a taste of what to expect in the Premiership season. From what we have seen so far, fans can look forward to world class soccer, exciting match ups and shock results. With the quarter finals behind us, it is time we took a look at what we can look forward to in the semi finals.

Quarter Final Results

Defending Champions set the tone when they progressed to the Semi-Finals of this competition at the expense of Supersport United. It was no easy task, with Orlando Pirates having to dig deep in extra time to win this tie. Goals from Olisa Ndah and Vincent Pule, took the tie into extra time. Post 90 minutes it was the Orlando Pirates show, as they managed to secure two more goals through Saleng and Makgopa to end the tie at 3-1.

The second quarter final gave us an entertaining match between two of South Africa most exciting sides. Stellenbosch walked away with the result after scoring three goals against TS Galaxy in a tie that saw a half time result of 2-1 in favour of Stellenbosch. This was a very impressive comeback as TS Galaxy took the lead in the 18th minute through Sebelebele. Stellenbosch responded with two goals in the first half through Adams, De Jong, and a second half gaol from Basadien in the 54th minute to seal the comeback and win the result.

Sekhukhune United vs Cape Town City was one of those matches where we all thought that the higher ranked team would win the tie. However, it was not meant to be as Sekhukhune United's drama off the pitch affected their performance on the pitch. Leading to a 1-0 win for Cape Town City. Gonzalez found the back of the net from the penalty spot and sealed Cape Town City's procession to the next round. There is a lot to be excited about this season for Cape Town City fans. Keep a close eye on Eric Tinkler's men

The last quarter final was redialed with drama, as Denis Onyango picked up a red card in the 83 minute for regular time. In total the game produced five yellow cards and one red card. To add to the drama, an own goal from Polokwane City's Thabang Matuludi was enough to see Mamelodi Sundowns through to the next round.
