The Netherlands face Austria in an absolutely huge game in Group D clash, with top spot still up for grabs in a group containing France. Now all three teams are set to qualify for the last 16 as it stands, but Austria’s place in the last 16 could be in question if they lose here.

However, Ralf Rangnick’s men have been seriously impressive so far, and arguably should have beaten France in the opening game. They will take some stopping, and England’s last 16 opponents could be the team that finishes third in this group. It’s all to play for, and below you can find my Netherlands vs Austria prediction.

Netherlands vs Austria Betting Tips

  • Austria to win @ 13/5
  • Marko Arnautovic anytime goalscorer @ 27/10

Team News

Brian Brobbey is back in contention for the Netherlands after a hamstring injury, while Ronald Koeman may be tempted to make changes in midfield. Joey Veerman and Jerdy Schouten are both one game away from suspension and could be taken out of the firing line here, with Jeremie Frimpong likely to win his second successive start. Georginio Wijnaldum is also a potential midfield option for the manager.

Rangnick made a few changes for the win over Poland in order to keep energy levels high, so it will be interesting to see who lines up for him on Tuesday night. Captain Marko Arnautovic is likely to lead the line again, while at the back one of Kevin Danso and Max Wober may miss out to Philipp Lienhart.

Netherlands possible starting lineup:
Verbruggen; Dumfries, De Vrij, Van Dijk, Ake; Reijnders, Schouten; Frimpong, Simons, Gakpo; Depay

Austria possible starting lineup:
Pentz; Posch, Danso, Lienhart, Mwene; Seiwald, Laimer; Wimmer, Baumgartner, Sabitzer; Arnautovic

Netherlands vs Austria Odds

Netherlands are priced as the 25/21 favourites to win this game, with Austria available at 13/5. A draw can be backed at 43/20, over 2.5 goals is 89/100 and BTTS is 7/10.

Austria to win @ 13/5

I really fancy Austria in this tournament, and from a selfish point of view, I desperately want England to avoid them in the last 16. Their pressing game is so difficult to stop, and I think their attacking style will cause the Netherlands loads of problems. There is everything to place for in this one, and although France are expected to beat Poland and top the group, second spot is up for grabs.

Although the Netherlands have an excellent defence and looked good against France, a game they were unlucky not to win after Xavi Simons’ goal was disallowed for a questionable offside. They could have won the group with a win there, but now they are facing an Austrian team full of energy that is likely to cause them problems. I’m backing Rangnick’s side to find all three points.

Marko Arnautovic anytime goalscorer @ 27/10

Arnautovic started against Poland and subsequently scored from the penalty spot, but he had chances to find the net more than once. His movement and energy at the top of the pitch is so important for Rangnick and although Michael Gregoritsch is another option in the number nine role.

However, I think the manager will want to stick with his captain and Arnautovic will want to make a mark. He will be desperate to drag his side into the last 16 and do so in style with a goal. I’m backing the former Stoke City man to score anytime at 27/10
