The Netherlands are some people’s dark horses to win Euro 2024, and they seem to have a well-balanced squad, even if it is slightly lacking in attacking flair. The begin their campaign in Hamburg with a game against Poland in Group D, and given France and Austria are also in this group, Ronald Koeman will be targeting all three points.

Below you can find my Poland vs Netherlands prediction.

Poland vs Netherlands Betting Tips

  • Netherlands to win to nil @ 7/5
  • Anytime Goalscorer: Memphis Depay @ 8/5

Team News

The big news for Poland is the fact that Robert Lewandowski is going to miss this game due to injury. The Barcelona man and Poland captain will be a massive miss, and he is likely to be replaced by Adam Buksa, although former Milan striker Krzysztof Piątek is also in contention. 19-year-old Bologna attacking midfielder Kacper Urbański could shine in the number 10 role.

The Netherlands have remarkably also suffered a key injury to a Barcelona player, but unlike Lewandowski, Frenkie De Jong has been ruled out of the entire tournament. Koeman will rely on a solid defensive structure to carry his team into the knockout stages, with captain Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence.

Poland predicted line-up: Szczęsny; Bednarek, Dawidowicz, Kiwior; Frankowski, Moder, Slisz, Zalewski; Zieliński, Urbański; Buksa

Netherlands predicted line-up: Verbruggen; Dumfries, De Vrij, Van Dijk, Aké; Reijnders, Schouten, Veerman; Simons, Depay, Gakpo

Poland vs Netherlands Odds

Poland are priced at 5/1 to win this game, while the Netherlands can be backed at 57/100 to win the opener. A draw is available at 31/10, BTTS is 46/43 and over 2.5 goals is 97/100.

Netherlands to win to nil @ 7/5

I think Netherlands boast one of the greatest defences at Euro 2024, and they shouldn’t have much trouble keeping Poland at bay, given the underdogs are missing Lewandowski. With Van Dijk likely to be complimented by Stefan de Vrij and Manchester City’s Nathan Ake, and with the attacking Denzel Dumfries at right-back, it seems like Koeman has a perfect balance.

Mickey van de Ven is waiting in the wings along with Jeremie Frimpong, and this Dutch side is really coming together. They could do fairly well this summer, if Memphis Depay can come up with the goals, but it is their defence that can carry them deep into the competition. They should be able to win this game, and get a clean sheet in the process against a tepid Poland outfit.

Anytime Goalscorer: Memphis Depay @ 8/5

The former Manchester United man has now been moulded into a central striker by his country, and he is expected to lead the line for the Netherlands in this tournament. With a decent level of creativity behind him in the form of Cody Gakpo, Depay should be given a few chances in this game to find the net.

He’s scored 45 goals in 92 games at international level, and the Dutch side have scored four goals against Scotland, Canada and Iceland in recent months. Depay is the main man from an attacking perspective, and I’m expecting him to get off the mark here.
