Spain vs England Prediction: Three Lions to suffer final heartbreak again
England are on the cusp of history. The Three Lions are set to play in just their third major tournament final, and their first on foreign soil, having won the World Cup at Wembley in 1966, and lost the Euros final on penalties to Italy in 2021.
Gareth Southgate has silenced his doubters once again by reaching back-to-back European Championship finals, but now his biggest test awaits. Spain have been the team to beat at Euro 2024, knocking out France and Germany on the way to Berlin. Below you can find my Spain vs England prediction for this giant game.
Team News
Spain are able to put Dani Carvajal and Robin Le Normand straight back into their back four after they both served a suspension during the semi-final win over France. Nacho did well to deputise but is unlikely to start, while Dani Olmo is going to be the attacking creative spark in midfield, as Pedri has been ruled out.
Rodri and Fabian Ruiz will continue their partnership in midfield, with Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams the devastating wingers. It looks as though the blow Alvaro Morata received from a security guard’s slip after the game will not rule him out, and the Spanish captain should lead the line.
England’s only real dilemma is whether to start Luke Shaw or Kieran Trippier on the left side of defence. Shaw came on at half-time against the Netherlands but Southgate may choose to stick with Trippier, especially up against the left-footed Yamal.
Spain are the favourites heading into this final, priced at 3/2 to take the win in 90 minutes. Meanwhile, England are available at 47/20, and a draw is 37/20. Over 2.5 goals can be backed at 73/50 while BTTS is 1/1.
Spain to win @ 3/2
Spain have been the best team at Euro 2024 by quite some margin. They have beaten all of the top teams on the way to the final, including reigning champions Italy, hosts Germany and World Cup finalists France. Now England await in Berlin, but I don’t think they will provide a step up in opposition compared to what Spain have faced so far.
De la Fuente has got his side flying, and if they were going to slip up, it would have been when they were 1-0 down against France. Instead, they came back and won the game, inspired by their teenage sensation Yamal. England may just have to settle for second place, in consecutive European Championships.
Lamine Yamal and Bukayo Saka to score @ 99/4
I actually also think this will be an open game, contrary to popular belief. These two teams have both got bags of attacking talent, and I believe with the wingers on show, we should see some goals.
Both teams have scored in each of these two team’s knockout matches, with Bukayo Saka scoring an important equaliser for England in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Spain have two of the most dangerous wingers in the world, and I think Lamal will be impossible to stop. We are getting a massive price on both him and Saka to find the net in the final.
