Wolves vs Chelsea Prediction: Cole Palmer to find the net
Wolves host Chelsea on Sunday afternoon as both clubs look to kick-start their seasons after defeats on the opening weekend. Chelsea were well-beaten by Manchester City on home soil while Wolves also lost 2-0, to City’s title rivals Arsenal. They were both up against it last weekend, but will fancy their chances of picking up maximum points here.
Below you can find my Wolves vs Chelsea Prediction featuring team news and betting tips.
Team News
Nelson Semedo remains suspended for the home side, so Matt Doherty will continue at right-back. Meanwhile Sasa Kalajdzic and Leon Chiwone are long-term absentees but Rayan Ait-Nouri should be fit to play having gone off late against Arsenal with a knock. Matheus Cunha is now available to start having come off the bench in this one, and Gary O’Neil could name a complete XI without an English player for the second game running.
Meanwhile, Cole Palmer had a slight hamstring complaint in the win over Servette but Enzo Maresca believes he will be fit to play. Reece James is still out with a thigh injury, but new signing Joao Felix is immediately available after joining the club on a permanent basis. Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell have been told they can leave Chelsea this summer.
Wolves are priced at 33/10 to win this one, with Chelsea available at 19/25. A draw can be backed at 3/1, over 2.5 goals is 61/100 and BTTS is 31/50.
Chelsea to win @ 19/25
I am not convinced by either of these teams this season, but I will give some credit to Chelsea. Although their squad is a mess and they really need to stop signing players, their first XI now is fairly settled as Maresca looks to shrink his bloated squad. Romeo Lavia, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo make up a top midfield trio, while Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku are talented attacking options.
I’m basing this purely based on the squads on paper, but Chelsea should win this game. They have all the firepower, and depth to beat Wolves at this moment in time, and it will be a disappointment if they fail to get all three points at Molineux.
Cole Palmer to score @ 31/25
The best player in the league last season, along with Phil Foden. Palmer is Chelse’s star man and I’d expect him to get his season underway with a goal against Wolves. The England international, who scored in the Euro 2024 final of course, scored 22 league goals last campaign and although I’m expecting that number to come down slightly, I still think he will get at least 15 this term.
Wolves didn’t look particularly strong defensively against Arsenal, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them concede a few more goals in this one. Palmer is the most likely goalscorer on the pitch.
