The first Soweto Derby was played on the 24th of January 1970 when Orlando Pirates met the newly formed Kaizer Chiefs in the third place play off, of the Rogue Beer Cup. Kaiser Chiefs was born 17 days before the show down which mean't that this newly formed outfit made up of ex pirates players would play them for the bronze. That game would have Percy 'Chippa' Moloi score the first ever goal scored in a Soweto derby. 54 years on, this match is the most anticipated match in the South African DSTV Premiership calendar. steeped in history and always the highlight amongst dark days for both teams. This is for the pride of South Africa, the streets of Soweto, the mountains of the Drakensburg, the two oceans and a nation divided between the black and white of Orlando or the gold of Kaizer's Chiefs.

3 Way - Orlando Pirates 51/50

Historically Orlando Pirates is the team that gave birth to Kaizer Chiefs, but on Saturday history will count for nothing as this generation of players, coaches and staff will want to write a new chapter in this on going saga. Separated by just 1 point, Orlando Pirates knows what is at stake. a win for them could see them climb into the top four temporarily. A loss will be devastating to their ambitions of playing their football on the continent next season. Pirates have not lost a game in their last four outings. They have been the first team on the score sheet in 8 out of their last 9 matches.

The Sea Robbers will be looking to secure all three points on Saturday Afternoon when they come against an old rival in Kaizer Chiefs. Whether or not Kaizer Chiefs have everything they need to take down this Orlando Pirates outfit is a different story. However, it is clear that Pirates are coming into this match as favourites.

3 Way - Kaizer Chiefs 3/1

The team most South Africans are expecting to lose this edition of the derby is Kaizer Chiefs. The loss to Milford FC in the Nedbank Cup left a bitter taste in South African fans mouthes as the result they expected didn't happen. Although Kaizer Chiefs have somewhat redeemed themselves with a win in their mid week clash against Golden Arrows. This hasn't been enough to convert the non-believers into believers. 1 win in their last four matches and with only 1 goal in 2024. There is a few things Kaizer Chiefs will have to address if they are going to win this game.

With this match being a derby you cannot write-off Kaizer Chiefs. Especially when you consider they are going another season trophyless. They need this result to rekindle the faith of their fans in the Kaizer Chiefs badge.

Both Teams to Score - Yes 28/25

Kaizer Chiefs scored their first goal of 2024 in their midweek clash with Golden Arrows. This after Kaizer Chiefs had gone 3 games without scoring a single goal in open play. Orlando Pirates has been free scoring, putting 6 past Crystal Lake in the Nedbank Cup and scoring a goal in each of their last 9 matches. Pirates are a team in goal scoring form and they are expected to find the back of the net against Kaizer Chiefs, the only question is; can Kaizer Chiefs find the back of the net against a high flying Orlando Pirates side?

Winning Margin - Away by 1 23/5

The last three Soweto Derbies ended with a 1 goal margin. Two of the Three aforementioned encounters took place in the DSTV Premiership with one ending in a Kizer Chiefs win and the lasted ending with an Orlando Pirates win. Both Soweto Giants will play this match passionately, however, only one will walk away with three points. If Chiefs are to win this game, I see them edging it by one goal.
