The Formula One is motorsports premier competition, where technology advances drivers chances of winning and the machines are like nothing on the road. Over the years there has been world class drivers like Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

Here at Betfred Insights Education, we always looking to equip out readers with the information necessary to make their betting experience easier and enjoyable. Below we will be outlining the markets available on our website and the types of bets you can place with us.

Did You Know?

McLaren and the team behind Lando Norris' hold the record for fastest Pit Stop in an F1 Race at 1.80 seconds set in Qatar 2023.

Outrights

The Outright Market across all of the sports we have available on our website caters to the overall competition or tournament result. For e.g. with football you can bet on the tournaments top goal scorer, the eventual champions and the tournaments top four or teams to get relegates. Formula One customers can use this market to bet on two markets that are available all season long. The first of which is the Drivers’ Championship, if you think you know which driver will accumulate the most points throughout the season, this market is for you. The points system in the drivers championship works as follows;

First Place = 25 points

Second Place = 18 points

Third Place = 15 points

Fourth Place = 12 points

Fifth Place = 10 points

Sixth Place = 8 points

Seventh Place = 6 points

Eighth Place = 4 points

Nineth Place = 2 Points

Tenth Place = 1 Points

The fastest lap is awarded a 1 bonus point.

The sprint races were introduced in the 2021 Formula One season. There were three sprint races in the inaugural year but since 2022, there has been six sprint races taking place every season. The points system for sprint races works as follows;

First Place = 8 points

Second Place = 7 points

Third Place = 6 points

Fourth Place = 5 points

Fifth Place = 4 points

Sixth Place = 3 points

Seventh Place = 2 points

Eighth Place = 1 points

The second market is the Constructors’ Championship, When the first Formula One World Championship took place in 1950 it was only for drivers. The Constructors’ Championship didn’t come along until 1958.

The Constructers championship is more straightforward. Each team enters two cars into each race. All of the points scored across the season by both cars are added together, and this is the team’s points total in the Constructors’ Championship. For e.g. in the 2023 season, the 575 points scored by Max Verstappen and the 285 points scored by Sergio Perez gave Red Bull a total of 860 points for season giving them the championship in the process.

Red Bull currently have Verstappen and Sergio Perez as their drivers, so in this market you could back ‘Red Bull’, and hope that those two drivers amass the most points between them. They are the two outright markets usually available in Formula One.

Race Winner

This is the race weekend by race weekend action. For each race on the calendar, you can back a race winner. This allows you to place bets on a variety of events that take place on a race weekend. From Sprints, to the actual race and who will secure poll position this market is for the Formula One Fundi.

To finish on the podium

Besides backing a race winner, F1 fans can back drivers to make the podium. Unlike the Winners bet, you have more wiggle room with the result, because if your diver finishes in first, second or third you get paid out. However, the odds are not as attractive as the odds on backing a winner.

To finish in the points

If the podium is not giving you enough wiggle room, you can place your bet on the "to finish in the points" market. which allows you to back a driver to finish in the top 10 amongst the points.

Qualifying

You can also back a driver to bag pole position in qualifying rounds of the F1 weekend. This is slightly different to the race winner, and it is the race for pole position in the main race.

Sprints

A relatively new addition to Formula One with the first racing having been held in 2021. Betfred offers markets on the Sprint qualifying and races. There’s six of them dotted around the calendar this season, and they are mini-races with points on offer for the top eight.
