3 Way - Bayern Munich 13/10

I know, you probably weren't expecting a prediction from me that says Bayern Munich will walk away with the win in this UEFA Champions League semi final first leg. Especially when considering that the last time Bayern Munich beat Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, Bayern's team featured Mario Gomez upfront, Toni Kroos was still in Bayern Colours and The due of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery were running down the wing for the Bavarians. Real Madrid had current Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso in the midfield, ahead of him a front 4 that featured, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil in the number 10 role. it was a different time.

Fast forward more than a decade, from that epic encounter between two of Europes biggest clubs. We have a new generation of players, coaches and staff at both Clubs and with Bayern having lost their domestic crown to Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern are a team with nothing to lose. Coach Thomas Tuchel has been in this position before, with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. Both occasions he managed to beat the odds an advance to the final and wining a UEFA Champions League title with Chelsea FC.

It is crucial to remember that Real Madrid have made this competition their own. They are a world ahead of everyone who participates in the champions league. They are the favourites to progress, however, this first leg is in Bayerns hands. Real Madrid have played 18 games in a row without suffering defeat, while Bayern have 5 games without suffering defeat. They both have won their last 4 games in a row and the coaches have met 9 times in recent history. Tuchel has won a majority of those meetings with 4 wins and 2 draws. It is hard to predict a winner, but for me, Bayern will win the first leg.
