Belgium vs Montenegro Prediction: Doku the one to watch
Domenico Tedesco is looking to lead Belgium into a new era after their ‘golden generation’ failed to win a major tournament. However, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku are still in the squad, and they have been handed a relatively easy group at Euro 2024, with Slovakia, Ukraine and Romania.
They warm-up for the summer tournament with a home game against Montenegro in Brussels on Wednesday night, while the visitors failed to qualify and will prepare for their next Nations League campaign. Below you can find my Belgium vs Montenegro prediction.
Team News
Kevin De Bruyne is set to make his 100th appearance for his country in this one, and the captain will take the acclaim of the crowd as he reaches this impressive milestone. Tedesco is likely to pick a stronger XI for this one, and try some fringe players on Saturday against Luxembourg, while 35-year-old Axel Witsel has come back into the squad and could feature.
Stefan Savic, Risto Radunovic and Stefan Loncar have all been left out of the Montenegro squad, while Marko Jankovic looks likely to start in midfield. Stevan Jovetic, the former Manchester City striker should captain the team after winning the Europa League with Olympiacos last week.
Belgium vs Montenegro Match Odds
Belgium are priced at 6/25 to win this game, while Montenegro are the rank outsiders at 10/1. A draw can be backed at 23/5, BTTS is 23/20 and over 2.5 goals is 59/100.
Home win to nil @ 91/100
Although I think Montenegro are a decent side, as they have proven over the last 12 months, Belgium should have too much for them. Montenegro have won three of their last four games, but against lower-ranked opposition such as Lithuania and North Macedonia.
Travelling away to a European giant is a tougher test, and I think they will come up short. De Bruyne, Doku, Lukaku and Leandro Trossard have so much quality and they should be able to score a couple against Montenegro. I also think the home side should dominate and we can boost our odds by backing the home side to win to nil.
Jeremy Doku to score anytime @ 49/20
Left winger Doku has had an impressive season at Manchester City and even in the FA Cup final, which City lost, he was by far the best player on the pitch. I think this is set to be a breakout tournament for Doku, and he will want to get off and running with a goal against Montenegro.
His flair is undeniable and I think he should enjoy himself here, and assert himself as a guaranteed starter at the Euros. He could be one of the stars of the summer.
