Brighton vs Man United Prediction: Red Devils to finish the season on a high
Manchester United secured an impressive 3-2 win over Newcastle on Wednesday night to give themselves a shot in the arm ahead of the FA Cup final. First of all, they need to finish off their Premier League season with a trip to Brighton, and its a game that could determine whether they are playing European football next season or not.
If they overhaul Newcastle and finish seventh, they will qualify for the Europa Conference League, however, if they win the FA Cup, they will qualify for the Europa League via that competition. There’s a lot still to play for from a United perspective and below you can find my Brighton vs Man United prediction.
Team News
Brighton’s attacking injuries have seriously hampered their progress this season, with Evan Ferguson, Solly March and Kaoru Mitoma all out. Joao Pedro played against Chelsea on Wednesday to ease those attacking woes, but Danny Welbeck could start having scored off the bench late on last time out.
More good news for Manchester United on the injury front as centre-back Lisandro Martinez returned to action in midweek. He is likely to get more minutes here ahead of the FA Cup final, which means Casemiro will be taken out of the spotlight at the heart of United’s defence. Luke Shaw is yet to return to the matchday squad, but is closer to a return, while Mason Mount is unlikely to make it back for this one.
Brighton vs Man United Betting Odds
Brighton are priced at 10/9 to win this game, with Man United available at 41/20 to take all three points. A draw can be backed at 31/10, over 2.5 goals is 8/25 and BTTS is 33/100.
Man United to win @ 41/20
I think Manchester United have improved over the last two matches. Erik Ten Hag has changed things slightly in terms of his set-up, and the introduction of Sofian Ambrabat into midfield looks to have helped his side. When you consider that his most important defender, Martinez, is now back in action, I think that we are getting good value for an away win here.
United have European football to play for, and they will also want to go into the FA Cup final in good spirits, hopeful of causing an upset against likely title winner Man City. Brighton haven’t been in good form and lost to Chelsea in midweek, meaning they have now won just one of their last eight. I think we will see another away win here.
Away team to win both halves @ 7/1
United are a fine attacking outfit, and with Amad Diallo coming in on the right wing ahead of Antony, now look a far more dangerous prospect for sides to deal with. Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford both started on the bench against Newcastle, but I would expect them both to start here to add extra firepower to the United attack.
I’m not sure Brighton will be able to stop them from scoring at least a couple, which is why I believe the value pick lies in backing the away side to win both halves at odds of 7/1. A convincing victory would give Ten Hag the boost he needs heading into next weekend.
