Denmark vs Sweden Prediction: Home side can head into Euros with a win
Denmark face Sweden at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on Wednesday night, looking to put the finishing touches to their Euro 2024 preparations. The first of two all-Scandinavian clashes will see Kasper Hjulmand try to finalise his first choice XI, before they head into a group with England, Serbia and Slovenia.
Sweden won’t be at the tournament and are arguably the biggest absentees, given their squad features Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Dejan Kulusevski. With Jon Dahl Tomasson now in charge, Sweden will want to get themselves into good shape heading into qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Below you can find my Denmark vs Sweden prediction.
Team News
Manchester United duo Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund will both feature here, while Brentford trio Mathias Jensen, Mikkel Damsgaard and Christian Norgaard are all battling for midfield places. Thomas Delaney and Kasper Dolberg are fresh off the back of winning the Belgian Pro League with Club Brugge and there’s a lot of talent for Hjulmand to choose from.
Meanwhile, Sweden are without Gyokeres after the Sporting CP striker underwent knee surgery. However Isak, Kulusevski and Anthony Elanga make up an exciting attacking trio that could do some damage. This will be JDT’s third game in charge, as Sweden look to find a more positive pathway forward.
Denmark are 17/20 to win this one, while Sweden are priced at 3/1. A draw can be backed at 49/20, BTTS is 73/100 and over 2.5 goals is 83/100.
Denmark to win @ 17/20
Although I think that Sweden have and will improve under their new manager, but Denmark have proven themselves to be one of the elite teams in Europe of late. They made it to the semi-finals of Euro 2020 and were only beaten by the hosts England in extra-time after a questionable penalty decision, while they now have an emerging striker in Hojlund who can cause any team problems.
They won seven out of ten to top their qualifying group for this tournament, and Sweden have not hit the heights expected of them over the past couple of years. As a result, and with Denmark hoping to head into the summer with confidence, I’m expecting a decent home performance, and another win.
Under 2.5 goals @ 49/50
Neither of these two sides have been producing goals of late, and with changes expected, I can see this one being a fairly stale affair. Denmark have only scored two goals in their last three outings, and those both came against the Faroe Islands, so they do have work to do in attacking areas.
They lost 2-0 to Northern Ireland and drew 0-0 with Switzerland, so will hope to find their shooting boots against Sweden. Meanwhile the visitors beat Albania 1-0 last time out, but are without Gyokeres, who will be a big miss up front.
