Newcastle United vs Man City Prediction: Will Haaland do it again?

Newcastle United and Manchester City open the weekends premier league fixtures with an 13:30 cat kick off. City will be without Rodri and possibly Kevin De Bruyne. Eddie Howe will look to capitalise and be the second team to take points off Manchester City this season. Something Newcastle has not managed to do in two seasons.

Eddie Howe has a long extensive list of injured players. The list includes Sven Botman (Knee), Lewis Miley (Foot), Jamaal Lascelles (Knee), Callum Wilson (Back), and Alexander Isak (Foot).

Manchester City will be without Rodri against Newcastle United. Pep Guardiuola has confirmed that the City Midfield maestro has undergone knee surgery and will not be available for the rest of this campaign. Pep is also without Oscar Bobb who is nursing a leg injury. Nathan Ake who is out with a muscle injury and Kevin de Bruyne who is out with a groin injury.

City has grown to enjoy playing against Newcastle, They have scored 107 goals in this fixture, 62 of which were scored away to Newcastle at St James' Park, with 20 wins out of the the 33 matches played away to Newcastle.

Recent form favours the side from Manchester. The Sky Blues have no losses in their last 9 matches. Despite having back to back draws in their last three matches, City managed to win in the EFL Cup against Watford by two goals to one at home.

Newcastle United were a team in form, when the season kicked off. They beat Southampton on opening day and followed that up with three wins in their next four matches. Which included a win against Tottenham Hotspurs at home by two goals to one. They did stumble away to Fulham, but they are still to drop points at home in the premier league this season. Last season Newcastle United were excellent at home, winning 11 matches drawing 6 and only losing 2. One of the two home losses came to Manchester City, but it was far from an easy win for Pep's side.

Even without Rodri, it will be an uphill task for Newcastle United to win this match. Especially without Isak to score their goals. In addition, Pep's Manchester City has plenty of depth, and although they do not have a like for like replacement in that role. They will deploy a Kovacic in that position. Who himself is a world class midfielder capable of playing deep when require to do so. Pep may also opt to use Stones during the build up phase to occupy that deep lying midfield role, allowing Kovacic to play higher up the pitch.
