Matchday 5 was jam packed full of drama, Manchester City dropped points for the first time this season when they played Arsenal at the Eitihad. Everton registered their first point and so did Southampton. Our match of the round will be taking place at Old Trafford and you can expect an explosive encounter when two giants of the Premier League meet on Sunday

Here are a few markets to consider adding to your bet slip...

League Headlines

Manchester City's Rodri is out for a long time with a Knee injury. So is Wolves' Mosquera, who also suffered a serious knee Injury. Liverpool's number 1 Alisson Becker is targeting a return against Wolves on Saturday. While Manchester United's Luke Shaw could return before the October International Break. Martin Odegaard's injury is significant says Arteta, so don't expect to see him for a while. Kevin De Bruyne could make a return on Saturday pending feedback from Manchester City's medical team.

Top 4

Manchester City continue to lead the title race by a single point over Liverpool and Aston Villa. Liverpool have the best goal difference in the top 4, with 9 goal. This is thanks to their defensive efforts. They currently have the best defence in the league with 1 goal conceded in five matches. Arsenal retain their spot in the top 4 by a single point over Chelsea and Newcastle United. The gunners are the top 4's least prolific team infront of goal. They have scored 8 goals and have conceded 3. They are the only team in the top four that has dropped points more than once this season.

Top Goal Scorer

Erling Haaland leads the race for this seasons golden boot. Scoring 10 goals in 5 matches. While Liverpool's Luis Diaz is in second, with 5 goals in 5 matches. Bryan Mbeumo, John Duran and Nicolas Jackson have all scored 4 goals. Yoane Wisse and Noni Madueke have both scored 3 goals from 4 matches while Danny Welbeck, Chris Wood and Mo Salah are all sitting on 3 goals for this season so far.

Erling Haaland will be expected to find the back of the net again this weekend when City face Newcastle United. He has faced them four times and has scored 1 goal against them in addition to collecting one assist. He is currently in the form of his life, and the momentum, he has built up over the past few match days may carry him into this weekends fixture. He has scored in every Premier League Match this season. In addition to a hat-rick against Ipswich, and West Ham United. He scored a Brace against Brentford and he opened the scoring at home against Arsenal. He is made of Goals.

Relegation

All three teams sitting in the relegation spots have registered a single point so far this season. With Southampton and Everton, waiting until match day five to secure their first points. Wolves, who sit rock bottom have struggled since their draw against Nottingham Forest. Match Day six is a scary prospect for all three teams involved. Everton are hosting Crystal Palace, Wolves are hosting Liverpool and Southampton are away to Bournemouth. For Everton, a win could see them leap frog Crystal Palace who sitting just outside the relegations spots. Wolves, will hope they can do to Liverpool what Nottingham Forest did a few weeks ago and Southampton will hope that Bournemouth are still out of sorts this weekend, and they can capitalise on Bournemouth's losing streak.

For teams in the relegation zone, there are two kinds of struggles, A struggle to score goals and a struggle to keep goals out. Everton and Wolves are struggling to keep the goals out. They have the joint league's worst defences with 28 goals conceded between the two teams. In addition, they are the only teams to have conceded over 10 goals in the league so far. Southampton, Ipswich and Crystal Palace all fall into the struggling to score goals category. They each have scored less than 5 goals in their first 5 matches of this season. Southampton are the worst attack in the league with 2 goals scored this season. If they are gonna survive, they will need to find their goal scoring boots soon.

Match of the Round

Sunday - 29/09/2024 Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspurs 17:30

Different starts, same outcome. Both these sides are sitting on 7 points each with 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. Tottenham have the better goal difference hence they sit above Manchester United on the league table. They have scored 9 goals and conceded 5, while Manchester United have scored 5 goals and conceded 5.

For United, their Premier League season didn't start they way they expected. After an opening day win against Fulham, the wheels came off against Brighton, which was followed by a loss to traditional rivals Liverpool. They bounced back against Southampton but failed to maintain their momentum against Crystal Palace. That draw would put Manchester United in 11th position.

Spurs drew on opening day against Leicester, they bounced back against Everton but like Manchester United they failed to maintain their form after winning that match. They would lose their next two games before winning against Brentford last time out.

History between these two sides favours United. They have won 39 of 64 matches they have played against Spurs. 24 of those wins came at home and 15 were away at Spurs. Spurs have won only 4 matches at Old Trafford in their history and there is only 14 draws between these sides. The last time they met at Old Trafford, they played out to a two all draw.

It is going to be a nail bitting affair, and I back Manchester United to win this match. Especially when considering that they traditionally dominated this match and that they have Hojlund back from injury.
