Richards Bay vs Pretoria University Prediction: Rich Boys cling onto the PSL

Richards Bay FC finished second off the bottom, in this season DSTV campaign, two points away from safety they will feel like they were not completely off the pace of their closes rivals in South Africa's Premier Division. They now find themselves fighting for survival against Baroka FC and Pretoria University who are both hungry to play in the countries top flight. The three way table has kicked off and Pretoria University are the first team to put points on the board with their 1-0 win against Baroka FC getting them off to a strong start.

Pretoria University are the team to back in this season Relegation/Play-Off mini tournament. They have impressed in the Nedbank Cup and have been a formidable force in the Championship. They have DSTV Premiership experience having played in the tournament before, when it was still known as the Premier Soccer League. They have suffered long absence from South Africa's top flight and this is starting look like their year. They have Gone six games without tasting defeat, including five draws in a row. Their most notable result this season was a one all draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup. Pretoria University lost that game on penalties but it was a statement to the rest of South African football that they mean business.

In the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Pretoria University were the team to beat this season. They lost their winning edge in the final weeks of the season but overall they were miles ahead of most of their peers on the pitch but the results weren't near what they need to be. These are early signs of a team with the right strategy but not necessarily the right personnel. However, it was enough to see them finish second with 49 points, 30 goals scored, and 22 conceded. They had the best defence in the championship with their second best defence being Maritzburg United who conceded 26 goals. Attack is where Pretoria university fall short. They scored 30 goals which was enough to see them finish the season as the leagues joint fifth worst attack.

Richards Bay FC were also struggling for goals this season, but they were able to find the back of the net in big matches towards the end of the season. They found the back of the net against Stellenbosch, Orlando Pirates and against Kaizer Chiefs. While also struggling to  keep clean sheets in all those aforementioned matches. When they played against teams at the foot of the table they lost their goals scoring edge. They failed to find the back of the net against Polokwane city and Cape Town Spurs. What made this games notable, was that they came either side of Richards Bay's wins against the Soweto Giants, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

The Giant Slayers of the 23/24 season find themselves having to slay the Championship's Giants in Pretoria University. The last time these two teams met, it ended in a 1-0 in favour of Pretoria University. This match was played in the championship during the 21/22 season. Expect a muted affair between these two sides when they come head to head in this midweek clash. One goal will be enough to win this match.
