The Netherlands stumbled into the last 16 after finishing third in their group, behind Austria and France. However, they have been handed, on paper, a relatively kind draw as Romania were the shock winners of Group E. As a result, these two meet in Munich for a place in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.

Below you can find my Romania vs Netherlands prediction, including team news and betting tips.

Romania vs Netherlands Betting Tips

  • Cody Gakpo to score anytime @ 17/10
  • Netherlands to win and BTTS @ 91/37

Team News

Romania will have to cope without left back Nicusor Bancu as he picked up two yellow cards in the group stages, with Vasile Mogos a candidate to replace him. There’s a chance Andrei Ratiu could have to switch sides to accommodate this change, while Danis Dragus is set to continue up front. Ianis Hagi and Florinel Coman are both battling for a starting spot in the wide forward positions.

Meanwhile Ronaldo Koeman has a couple of big decisions to make. Joey Veerman was subbed in the first half of the 3-2 defeat to Austria and may lose his place to Xavi Simons while Tijjani Reijnders is set to play a more defensive role. Memphis Depay is just four goals short of Robin van Persie’s all-time goalscoring record for the national side.

Euro 2024 Odds

Romania predicted starting XI:
Nita; Mogos, Dragusin, Burca, Ratiu; R. Marin, S. Marin, Stanciu; Hagi, Dragus, Coman

Netherlands predicted starting XI:
Verbruggen; Dumfries, De Vrij, Van Dijk, Ake; Reijnders, Schouten; Frimpong, Simons, Gakpo; Depay

Romania vs Netherlands Match Odds

Romania are the outsiders for this one, priced at 7/1 to win the game in 90 minutes, while the Dutch are priced at 21/50 for the win. A draw can be backed at 7/2, over 2.5 goals is 91/100 and BTTS is 23/19.

Cody Gakpo to score anytime @ 17/10

I’ve been really impressed with the Liverpool man during this tournament, and he seems to be pretty effective from the left wing. With Memphis Depay in that central role, the Dutch have a relatively fluid attacking forward line and they’ve been better than many thought from an attacking perspective.

They should have beaten France, and were torn apart by a very good Austrian team, but they should have enough to get past Romania. I think Gakpo can have a big impact on this one, and am happy to pick him out to score anytime.

Netherlands to win and BTTS @ 91/37

I actually think this will be an opener encounter, with plenty of goals at both ends. We saw how open the Dutch were in that 3-2 defeat to Austria, and they should be able to find the net a couple of times in this one too. Meanwhile Romania have scored four goals so far, and looked really strong in that opener against Ukraine.

This one should be done and dusted in 90 minutes, and I’m backing the Dutch to come out on top in an entertaining match. Gakpo and Depay can both cause problems, while I just think the quality on show on an individual basis will take the Netherlands into the last eight.
