Venezuela vs Canada Prediction: Can Rondon drive his team to semi-final?
Venezuela have enjoyed a wonderful Copa America campaign so far, and they will hope that continues as they take on Canada in the quarter-finals in Arlington, Texas. Venezuela have only reached the final four once in this competition, back in 2011, but they have reached the quarter-finals in two of their last three editions.
Meanwhile Canada are competing in their very first Copa America tournament, having been invited to the tournament for the first time in 2024. Now they are on the brink of making it to the final four, which is a remarkable achievement. Below you can find my Venezuela vs Canada prediction.
Salomon Rondon will hope to make a big impact for Venezuela once again, having already scored twice at this tournament. The big number nine has also bagged one assist so far, while Real Valladolid forward Darwin Machis is out of this one, serving a one-match ban.
Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has a fully fit squad to choose from for Canada, Cyle Larin is set to continue up front, while star man Alphonso Davies will start at left-back, having been deployed further up the pitch for his country in recent years.
Venezuela are priced at 31/20 to win this game, while Canada are available at 7/4. A draw can be backed at 2/1, BTTS is 49/50 and over 2.5 goals is 27/20.
Venezuela to win @ 31/20
I actually think Venezuela have a real chance here, looking at the two teams. Clearly, Canada have the superior coach, but the squads are evenly-matched, and based on what we have seen in this competition so far, I’m coming down on Venezuela to win this quarter-final.
They topped a group containing Ecuador, Mexico and Jamaica, winning three from three so far. They’ve been impressive in all of those games, beating Mexico 1-0 and rounding off their group stage by scoring three past Jamaica. Meanwhile, Canada have only scored once in this tournament, against 10-man Peru, so I don’t think they will pose much of an attacking threat. Venezuela can sneak this one.
Home team clean sheet @ 33/20
A clean sheet will be vital to Venezuela’s progress here. They have defended relatively well so far this tournament, conceding just one goal in three games so far. When you match that up with Canada’s distinct lack of attacking prowess, I believe Venezuela will be able to keep them at bay for 90 mins.
This is unlikely to be an open game packed full of chances, but instead a tight and tetchy affair as both sides battle to make it to the final four. I think Venezuela will come out on top, with a clean sheet to boot.
