Denmark vs England Prediction: Can Three Lions secure top spot?

England got their Euro 2024 campaign off to a winning start in Gelsenkirchen as they beat Serbia 1-0 thanks to Jude Bellingham’s early header. The discussion that has followed has surrounded the positioning of Phil Foden, who started from the left but floated into the centre of the pitch.

That could work for England, although there were some concerns given the second half saw the team sit back and invite pressure rather than go out and chase the second goal. Next up they face Denmark on Thursday night, looking to make it two wins from two and secure their place in the last 16. Below you can find my Denmark vs England prediction.

Denmark vs England Betting Tips

  • England to win @ 13/20
  • Phil Foden to score anytime @ 16/5

Team News

Denmark are likely to stick with the 3-4-1-2 system that they employed in their opening game, even though they ended up drawing 1-1 with Slovenia. Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund is set to continue up front with Jonas Wind, while Christian Eriksen scored the opening goal and will play in the number 10 role. Thomas Delaney is an option to come into the centre of midfield.

Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate is likely to name the same XI as he did in the win over Serbia, as the team chemistry continues to build for England. Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to be tested again in the midfield role with Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka in the wide positions. Luke Shaw is unlikely to be fit to start, but could feature off the bench as he pushes to get his way back into the starting XI.

Denmark predicted XI: Schmeichel; Andersen, Christensen, Vestergaard; Kristiansen, Hjulmand, Eriksen, Højbjerg, Bah; Højlund, Wind

England predicted XI: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Guéhi, Trippier; Alexander-Arnold, Rice; Saka, Bellingham, Foden; Kane

Denmark vs England Odds

Denmark are priced at 24/5 to win this game, while England are the favourites at 13/20. A draw can be backed at 53/20, while over 2.5 goals is 29/25 and BTTS is 29/25.

England to win @ 13/20

Although England weren’t on top form against Serbia, they did look good at times. I also think that the Three Lions will grow into the tournament, as team chemistry and fitness hopefully builds over the coming weeks. Shaw will be a big plus if he can play some part, while I’m also expecting the likes of Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon to get onto the pitch at some point.

I’m hoping for an improved display, and hopefully that clean sheet will have settled the nerves of the back line. Marc Guehi impressed, and Kieran Trippier’s experience should help guide him through another 90 minutes. I think England should have too much quality against this tricky Denmark side.

Euro 2024 Odds

Phil Foden to score anytime @ 16/5

Foden rightly came in for some criticism for his performance against Serbia, but I also don’t think he was being utilised in the right way. Not by his manager, but by his teammates. It was clear that the likes of Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham weren’t finding him in the correct spaces. His movement was actually good at times, and I think that game will have helped the team understand their positions.

Foden is a quality operator, and I think he will want to prove his critics wrong against Denmark. Southgate is likely to stick with him, and he can reward that loyalty with a goal in England’s second match.
